February 10, 2013 (Dallas, TX) – Trailblazing leaders in the sewing, embroidery and quilting industries announce support for Be The Difference Foundation during the Vacuum and Sewing Dealers Trade Association (VDTA/SDTA) convention in Las Vegas and bring companies industry wide into the fold in the fight against ovarian cancer.
About 90% of women with ovarian cancer are over 40, with the majority being 55 or older.* This fact makes ovarian cancer one of the most impactful cancers to the core customers of crafting, sewing, quilting and embroidery retailers.
“We are in a unique position to reach the women most affected by ovarian cancer and it’s wonderful to have the support of our industry get behind ovarian cancer initiatives and Be The Difference Foundation” – Eileen Roche, Editor for Designs in Machine Embroidery Magazine.
The 2013 Retail Member program, spearheaded by Be The Difference co-founders Jill Bach, Helen Gardner, Lynn Lentscher & Julie Shrell aims to build awareness for ovarian cancer inside a group of thousands of independent sewing retailers across the globe. Members in the program receive a door cling to show their support to the Be The Difference Foundation and a graphic for online use. In addition, retailers have the opportunity to participate in social responsibility campaigns like scarf drives and to offer products in their stores that will bring much needed awareness to the disease and directly benefit the foundation.
One product available now is an Embroider a Cure design pack created by Designs in Machine Embroidery with 100% of the net proceeds going to the foundation. More design packs will launch in 2013 and other products will follow.
Industry leaders of many brands are committed to supporting programs benefiting the Be The Difference Foundation including Brother®, BrewerTM, Bernina, Floriani Embroidery, Janome®, Tacony Corporation, Baby Lock, Singer®, Husqvarna Viking®, Pfaff®, and Universal Digitizing.
